NRNA Japan, in response to the earthquake, not only provided essential food but also facilitated the setup of four temporary toilets in the affected areas. On New Year’s Day, 725 Japanese citizens in Wajima and Suzusi camps, located in the earthquake-impacted Nodo Peninsula of Ishigawa Prefecture, received food assistance. NRNA Japan President Nabin Niure highlighted the challenging conditions, including disrupted roads and bad weather, but emphasized the organization’s commitment to stand by the Japanese people during disasters.
In the severely affected Sea Mie Community Center camp in Waji and the nearby camp, Suzusi Ida Secondary School camp, a total of 725 people were served hot meals. Despite the grim aftermath of the earthquake, Nepali support aimed to alleviate challenges faced by over 200 lives lost, communication breakdowns, and disruptions in daily essentials like water supply and electricity.
Nabin Niure mentioned, “Nepalis stand with the Japanese people during disasters,” expressing the solidarity demonstrated by reaching the affected areas despite difficult circumstances. Jigyan Kumar Thapa, a member of NRNA Japan’s expert committee, observed the joy among Japanese citizens when provided with hot meals amidst the cold weather and earthquake distress.
While acknowledging Japan’s support to Nepal during natural disasters, Thapa emphasized the reciprocal nature of assistance, with NRNA Japan actively reaching out to support Japanese citizens during challenging times. Tikaram Kharel, the General Secretary of NRNA Japan, emphasized the awareness among Nepalis in Japan of their responsibility to aid Japanese citizens during hardships and natural calamities.
